                                                MY FAMILY LIFE STORY

Because of my life experiences, I'm very interested in helping other kids who do not have parents.  Let me tell you why.  My life changed when I was eight years old because my mom had died.  I used to live in Brazil with my brothers, mother, and a sister.  My mom's name was Vilma de Almenau.  My mom told my brothers and me that we had a sister who died when she was fourteen years old.  My mom was forty-two years old when she died.  She was a very nice person and a hard worker.  My mom always took good care of all six of her sons and of her daughter.  She became sick and went to the hospital.  My brothers and I went to the hospital to visit my mom every week.  The doctors and nurses did not let us kids go in because we were too young.  But my brother, Gilson, and I climbed through an open window to celebrate her birthday as a family.  The doctors and nurses told my brothers that my mom would have to stay at the hospital for a few days.  A couple months passed and the next thing I knew she died in the hospital.

I never knew my father or who he was or if he was dead.  When my mom died, my old brother, Celson, was in his twenties, took over the house, and helped us out with money or anything else we needed.  After my mom died, we had a serious problem because my family was falling apart.  My older brother Celson got married, and he moved one half-hour away from our house.  My grandma moved in our house and took over and helped us out.  My other aunt decided to live with my grandma and us.   My brothers and I knew that my aunt wanted to help my grandma and us so my aunt could take over the house.  A few weeks later, my grandma died.  We went to her funeral.  My younger brother and I sometimes went to visit my older brother's house, but his wife did not like us very much.  My brothers and the rest of our family sent us to an orphanage because my family could not afford to help my younger brother and me out.

A few years passed and a man named Sui Valter Gonceson said that he was our father and he took over the house.  The first time I met him, he seemed like a nice person.  He washed our clothes and did a lot to help us out at home.  But one day, he started to go to the bars by our house and he decided that he needs money for alcohol.  Then he decided to take my watch and other things to sell to other people so that he could drink.  A group of gangsters went to the bar and saw him drinking and got into a fight and stole all his money.  So the next day, we decided that we brothers wanted Sui out of our house.  We told him that he could stay only for a couple months.  A couple months passed by and he decided to leave us and move back to his house in Florianapolis.  He went to live there with his mom and sister.  Florianapolis is a city two hours from my hometown of Joinville.

My younger brother and I lived in an orphanage for five years.  The orphanage treated us very badly by hitting and beating us up.  Sometimes my brother and I never even felt that we were somebody important to anyone but ourselves.  A few weeks later, before my younger brother and I left the orphanage, we received a message over the phone that our other brother, Alex, was dead.  There are only four of us brothers living now.

Six years has passed.  My younger brother and I received an opportunity to go to the United States.  We decided to go so we could be loved.  We got adopted by the Saba family and, thanks to them, we are happy to be alive and healthy.  Every night when we go to sleep we give thanks.  My younger brother and I used to go to the cemetery to visit my family in Brazil once in a while.  But we have not visited their graves for six years because that is how long we have lived in the United States.

Some day, when I have enough money, I want to open my own orphanage and help out as many kids as possible so they don't end up doing some stupid stuff in the streets.  They will know that someone loves and cares about them.

                                                IN HIGH SCHOOL

Because of my high school experiences, I'm interested in helping other kids who come from other countries.  The reason that I want to help them is because kids make fun of them because they do not know the language as well as others.  Let me tell you why.  When I was a sophomore at Mayfield High School, I arrived early and did my homework.  Sometimes kids cams up to me and laughed and said, "S AGENT, why are you doing homework? Homework is for dummies." I replied by saying, " I like school, and I want o get better grades."

At eight o'clock in the morning, my first class is English.  I took my homework out and then waited for my teacher's instructions.  Mrs. Smith said, "Put your hands up if you did your homework from yesterday."  So, three kids and I lifted our hands up, and we smiled.  The teacher called our homes and said to our parents, "What a great job your kids are doing in my class." I told Mrs. Smith that I appreciate the phone call to my parents to tell them how I'm doing.

The last few weeks of English class were rough for me; my regular teacher Mrs. Smith was absent for a few weeks because of an emergency at home.  The other students started laughing at me and called me different names.  I could not put up with that nonsense anymore.  I told everyone in class to shut up, and they did.  The moment my substitute teacher came in the room, he asked the class who said, " shut up." I put my hand up and said that I did it.  The teacher sent me to the principal's office.

The principle said, "What is the matter with you, S AGENT?" I told the principal that I told the students to shut up because they were making fun of me and they were throwing things at me as if I were a garbage collector.  The principal told me that he would call my parents to report me.  When I left the principal's office, I was very upset with the whole school because it seemed that no one took my side even though I'm a good student with good grades.

When I got home, my parents were sitting at the table to eat dinner and they said, "S AGENT, what happened at school today?" I did not want to disappoint them because they have done everything to help me in life.  I told them the truth.  They believed me, not because I'm their son, but because they knew that I would only say, "Shut up" if someone bothered me and annoyed me.  Therefore, my parents did not ground me.

The next day, when I returned to the school, the teacher and principal said that they were sorry that they did not believe me.  They knew that I'm a good, quiet student.  They let me go back to class, where the other students all apologized to me.

At the end of school year, I made new friends, and I enjoyed the rest of the year.
